Yes. To do so,
  1. Click and expand the Participant Panel
  2. Click the name of the attendee to prevent chat
  3. From the menu, click "Disable Chat"
  4. To enable, click the user's name again, and you will see "Enable Chat" instead. Click the option to enable it again.
